Feature: SKU search
Find the product by its SKU, however it's typed.
Default WooCommerce search ignores variation SKUs, and most store search treats “RUN-193-42”, “run 193 42” and “RUN19342” as three different words. Gazelle normalizes all of them to the same code and finds the parent product.
Example searches
“RUN-193-42”
Trail Runner, size 42 (the variant's own SKU)
“run19342”
Same product: dashes, spaces and case don't matter
“HP-010”
Orbit Noise Cancelling Headphones
How it works
SKUs, GTINs and any custom field you mark as an identifier are indexed separately from the product text. Letters and digits are split at their boundary, so a shopper typing part of the code still gets a match, and an exact SKU always ranks first.
Variants and variations
On WooCommerce, every variation's SKU is indexed against its parent. On Shopify, every variant SKU is synced with the product. The result shows the parent product, so shoppers land on a page that exists.
Custom fields
If your catalog keeps identifiers in custom fields, list them and they're searched the same way as the SKU.
- Model numbers
- Manufacturer part numbers (MPN)
- EAN / GTIN barcodes
- Any product meta field you list in settings
Questions
- Does WooCommerce search variation SKUs by default?
- No. WooCommerce's built-in search looks at the product title, content and excerpt. Variation SKUs are stored on the variation, so they aren't matched. The Gazelle plugin indexes them.
- Do partial SKUs work?
- Yes. A shopper typing the first part of a code sees matching products while typing. Exact matches rank above partial ones.
- Is SKU search on the free plan?
- Product SKU search is on every plan. Variation SKUs and custom fields are on Pro and Business.
